HOWLEY FAMILY SCHOLARSHIPS The Howley Family Foundation scholarship will usually be awarded to incoming 9th grade students. The purpose is to assist well rounded students with strong academic credentials to attend private high schools. Though the amount may vary on a case by case basis, the award will generally be a scholarship of between $1500 and $2500 per year for four years of attendance.
To be selected for the award a student must: 1-Demonstrate significant financial need as defined by the financial aid evaluation process currently used by the school. 2-Have scores on admissions test/standarized tests to indicate a high probability of success at the chosen high school. 3-Demonstrate a high level of academic achievement in elementary school. 4-Exhibit a high probability of ongoing participation and meaningful contribution in at least one extra curricular activity. 5-Demonstrate strong evidence of the family support and the cultural attributes necessary to succeed. 6-Submit at least 2 recommendations from his/her grade school, one of which should come from the principal. To maintain the award a student must: 1-Maintain a Cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0.) At times special circumstances will be considered if the GPA falls below the expected level provided that reasonably prompt progress is being made to recover to expected levels. 2-Participate in and meaningfully contribute to extra curricular activities. 3-Maintain good standing with the high school. 4-Semi-annually (January and June) submit to the Howley Family Foundation copies of all report cards and progress reports along with a written report outlining his/her progress and performance at the school. Process for Selection 1-The President/Principal will recommend students for the award and submit the required information to the foundation. This will occur in Mar. of the 8th grade year. 2-Representatives of the Howley Family foundation will review the candidate information and make the final selection. A meeting with candidates may be part of the review. 3-Upon selection of each student, the award will be funded with a 4 year pledge, conditional on meeting the maintenance criteria above.
