How do I apply for a grant?
You can submit an inquiry at our grant portal.  Once reviewed, you may be invited to submit a full application.

Generally, no.  Each application will be reviewed upon submittal.

What are the funding priorities of the Howley Foundation?
We are interested in educational opportunities for K-12 students from low socioeconomic backgrounds primarily in Cleveland and Philadelphia.  We do fund some college/university scholarships, but with limited scope.  Please see our scholarships section for more information.

Does the Howley Foundation make grants to individuals?
No.  The foundation only makes grants to 501(c)3 organizations.

Does the Howley Foundation sponsor events/benefits?
No.  The foundation is focused on academic scholarship and programming.

Does the foundation fund capital projects?
Generally, no.  However, if we can expand proven, high-quality seats for economically disadvantaged students that meet our definition of a quality education, or other similar situations arise with established and proven grantees, we may consider contributions to capital projects.

Does the foundation make contributions outside the Cleveland, OH and Philadelphia, PA areas?

We have a strong preference for Cleveland and Philadelphia. Occasionally, for projects that have a proven and effective national impact and/or uniquely effective leveraged impact, we will at times consider grants outside the target areas.  Please contact us for more information.

If a student drops out, can we replace the student with another?
Generally, no.
